Can You Install A Central Vac In An Existing House?
You may love the idea of a central vac system in your home, but worry about installing one. After all, putting hoses in walls, an engines in the basement and an entire suction system may seem like a huge renovation. Can you even install a central vac system in your home if it has not had one before?
The good news is that yes, you can.
It isn’t even a major renovation. In order to have a central vac system that can clean about 3,000 square feet, big enough for any modern home, you do not need to break down any drywall, or tear out any big sections of wall or flooring.
All you have to do is put a hole or two, no bigger than a fist, in a wall and this is where the inlet valve is going to be. The same size as an outlet, it is covered over and will be barely noticeable in the house.
From that hole, a pipe is run behind the wall and into a closet. From that closet, it runs to the attic or the basement and into the engine that is the workhorse of the central vac system. This is especially easy to do if you have a one-storey home, but homes that are two-storeys or more can be fitted with a central vac system too.
That is all there is to it. So to answer the question, absolutely you can have a central vac system installed into home, quickly and easily.
